You can get Chicom AK chest harnesses for way cheap and they are pretty small, comfy, and hold 6-8 AR mags depending on the rig.

I too suggest Tactical Tailor, but I am unsure about BFG. My last sling from them wasn't super impressive compared to lower priced competitors.
I Want to try out Haley Strategic stuff, but I haven't yet. Worth a look, but pricey. The modularity of the mag pouches are nice.

Helikon tex makes good stuff, and I think its all made in Poland. They have a larger chest rig as well.
If you wanna go chinese cheap, look at Krydex. Buy it off aliexpress, or from their online store, its considerably cheaper than amazon. But anything I have gotten from them is "good enough" especially considering what I have paid. Their mag pouches are esstac knockoffs too.

I’m looking for modular for sure. The Haley and Spiritus offerings are the most attractive to me because of this. Long term I want to pick up a Ferro Slickster for a plate carrier and then be able to hang whatever chest rig on the front as needed.You want MOLLE or something modular/modern with velcro?

They recently got some in stock. I have at least one but also found a Amazon knock off that is arguably slightly better and ended up having 2 shipped to me by mistake. OP, where you at, if near tulsa I can show you a few to look at in person.
I’m in Choctaw. Unfortunately I don’t get up that way often.
Here's the one I liked on Amazon. Chinese stuff, but seems reasonably tough if not actually in a fox hole, I'd wear it in Kenosha but not Ukraine if that makes sense. And if you like, you can buy a few that get replaced every couple yearr cheaper than the haley.
I like to try to many things so it can't all be gucci.
I've got a Spiritus Micro Fight rig (Mk3, not 4) I don't use much since I picked up some Unobtainium Gear Dank Robbers. AR & double stack pistol inserts, with the fat straps, in tan. I can dig it out and take pictures if you're interested.
