Very cool, I've always wanted to mess around with Macro. What lens? Also, what did you crank your ISO to on that second shot and why did you want a shorter exposure?
I wasn't using a tripod
Looks like a crack in the brass on that first shot.
It does appear to look like a crack, but I think it's a scratch. It doesn't extend up to the mouth and looks to end at the crimp. Hard to tell with the lack of light on that area.
