CMP has finally revamped their 1911 pistol sales process. They've gone to a system just like rifle sales...submit your packet and payment, background check (2nd BGC once it arrives at your dealer), get your gun. Lifetime limit of 2 pistols. If you're interested in the history of American military arms I'd highly recommend you get one.

$1300 for a "mix-master" with minor pitting and wear. Sounds like a deal to me.

As a matter of fact, it is a good deal for those who appreciate the history of US military 1911 pistols. Name another source for an equivalent pistol for less money.

Here's my all-Colt mixmaster from 1943 that was even a bigger bargain when I bought it from CMP a few years ago. Oh, yeah...the grips aren't cracked on this one either. I'm very happy with it:

I saw that as well. We will probably buy a couple of them.

Here is my 1942 Colt non-mixmaster, belt, USN knife, canteen kit, and Carlisle bandage that my great-uncle carried in WWII as a Sea Bee on several islands. My uncle traded a 38 revolver and some Saki for it to a Marine Lt. When I took possession of the pistol it still had a full mag of ammo, mag spring completely compressed with no push, and an accompanying box of military rds missing the ones he could account for. My uncle said that he relied on his rifle more as it was “kill’’em round.”

I know not a CMP piece but it is a great shooter.

The range grade guns sound interesting to me.

Range Grade $1150. These are 1911 pistols for those that want a part of history and a shooter, not a collectable. These are 1911s that have been modified in some way, and may have some commercial parts. No two (2) pistols are alike, the modifications / parts could be any of the following: Night Sights, extended Beaver Tail, Rubber Grips, Barrels, Oversized Slide Release, Target Triggers, Adjustable Rear Sights, Tactical Match Hammer, Competition Grip Safety, Sight Rib, Slides, Checkered Front Strap, Ambidextrous Safety, Different Finishes. Some of the manufactures of these parts are: Bar-Sto, Wilson, Ed Brown, Pachmayer, Hogue, Caspian and Bomar. ”

I'd love to see examples of the range grade pistols that are received. I'd assume that most are shooting team pistols or later issued USMC pistols with mods similar to MEUSOC 1911-A1's.
There is quite a bit of info out there showing many/most of these to be the last 1911s actually used/issued, and so carried only by units who required them, generally Special Forces, Marine Recon and etc etc, heavily modified by individiual unit requirements, and also due to no pipeline left for a very long time as for replacement parts, some of the exact guns shown in years of posts by a 5th SFG member as transmogrified by them over the years deployed in Afghanistan and showing up in Range Grade purchases....other buyers have submitted FOIA requests, but those generally dead end at what contract organization would have supplied such units, but no actual documentation available past that.
