I used CNG bi-fuel vehicles from 2000-2015. Fuel was inexpensive, but in the beginning there weren't that many stations. I even had a shut-off valve failure while driving. Nothing happened other than the natural gas dissipated. It got difficult to find to find shops to work on them. I think it's still a good cost effective measure until you can't fix any problems yourself. Maybe there are more trained techs available now.
I would think preppers would be interested in the long term storage ability for natural gas. CNG tanks aren't only for cars, stoves and heaters, but also power generators and refrigerators. I'm curious what the difference would be between using propane vs cng tanks though.
