The old switchboards were cool too. While in college, I worked three years (1967-69) at a Holiday Inn, and naturally was very familiar with that process. I hadn’t thought about that until you mentioned it.

Just from the pay phones or jail.Probably not to many people know what a collect call is anymore.
I am very familiar with the plant you hauled Anhydrous Ammonia out of.
Back many years ago when I worked as a supervisor building railroads for a railroad contractor, we rebuilt the track going into that plant.
If my memory serves me correctly, there was a fracturing plant on one side of the tracks and another plant on the other side that produced different gases such as helium, oxygen, etc.
I actually learned how to work an old switchboard while in the Army. The old switchboards were cool too.
Pay phones? They still exist? The only ones I've seen lately are the ones in Pond Creek Ok. They have their own phone system. Still a dime to call the last time I saw which was a couple of years ago.Just from the pay phones or jail.
I got an old man friend who owns an old-time tackle store in Omaha, Nebraska - he has a pay phone hanging on the wall of his old-time shop; this dude is like 90 (maybe a little older) and still goes in every day. Anyway - the phone company came in to take out his payphone and he said he wanted to keep it. The guys didn't have the heart to rip it off the wall, so they bypassed the coin op and left it hanging for him.Pay phones? They still exist? I saw one somewhere in Oklahoma, they had a for sale sign on it. They were nearly all a 400 number.Pay phones? They still exist? The only ones I've seen lately are the ones in Pond Creek Ok. They have their own phone system. Still a dime to call the last time I saw which was a couple of years ago.
