I got one of the 2020 Pythons about a year ago. The trigger pull is nice and crisp single action, but it's 5.5 pounds. I don't think that's impressive for a gun that is MSRP $1500 and built it's reputation on the trigger pull. I have several S&W revolvers and none of them are over 3.5 pounds. It's a nice revolver, but I was a little disappointed.

And I had to send it back to Colt for the cylinder locking up occasionally. You can still make it do it if you try, but you have to try and it's not very often.

I have a 2020 model python, I really like it.
For me the trigger pull is not that bad.
I have owned Sig DA/SA's still do. When you get used to shooting a Sig in DA the Python is like a hair trigger.
It is silky smooth for me.
It's a different type revolver compared to S&W revolvers.
Smiths are made to shoot Fast in my opinion, the Colt is made to shoot with high accuracy not so much for speed.

I have looked at the Viper, it is a fine pistol, but not sure what it was made for. If I were going to edc, I would go with a Snubby over the viper if I were looking for a smaller pistol, a detective special or Cobra,
I do prefer Colt over S&W in late model revolvers because of the lock on the smiths.
Older revolvers I lean toward a Smith for tunability. Older Pythons are very nice, but seem more for collectability over EDC.

I will probably get a Smith 29 or 629 this coming year. I have been looking and want one of the -2 models or earlier. for the chamfered cylinders. I am seeing a few out there, but not many. I have never purchased a gun without seeing it first, but to get a 29 or 629 it looks as though I may have to take a chance at an online gun.

What were the troubling reviews saying?
The hammer has a hook on the bottom and it breaks off. Thats on the King Cobra. Its made with a process
called MIM casting. Thats the major thing. It happens enough to be an issue. But not all of them do it I'm sure. Unless you get to 1000 rounds. Trigger guard hits middle finger hard compared to old model.

The Python is shown here at 28:40. But Colt may have overcome that issue.

Not slamming Colts new stuff but they should get these issues addressed asap. I have only seen one complaint regarding fit and finish. Thats where Colt has succeeded with the new revolvers I think.

Broken hammer on King Cobras and Vipers. Not Pythons. They are steel.

Some dang good 629s show up in the classifieds here occasionally!
