During my "lurking" years I learned alot. Best advice I ever got (i think it was JP or Glocktogo) was to think of GenDisc, like being in a barbershop. We're all here for a common reason and opinions are sought and freely given.

So get your haircut regularly and enjoy the conversation.

The general discussion area is great for what it is. The rest of the forum contains great information though. When i first joined I remember wishing the rest of the forum saw as much action as the GD area. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most of the people on the board are very knowledgable and just don't post in the other areas as often because they don't have questions regarding firearms. They are always there to answer other people's questions though.

Without the GD area I think the forum would be a very dull place. There would not be many people that frequented the forum on a daily basis. Those people that stay on here constantly for the conversation in the GD area are the same people that provide the wisdom when somebody like me posts a newb question in the other areas. The hunting and fishing area keeps a lot of good guys on here that don't ever even post in the GD area.

Also I think you would not get to know people's personality as well when they would simply answer a persons question. However with he GD area you get to know people.
