Very cool! She is now in a select few that are still alive that get to shoot the Thompson. What a fun day.
As I understand it, there are still a couple of LEO's in OK that still have them in inventory and qualify with them? Somebody help me with this one.

My great uncle was an FBI agent in the 60's. I got to shoot his issue at about the same age as your Daughters.

Got I pretty good education on the Thompsons that day as well. Didn't realize the differences between the 27's, 28's, and 29's, the A1's, M1's and M1A1's. Crazy thing about this gun, it was purchased from a guy who had a collection of them.....................several dozen of them!

From what I understand, the full auto's could be bought from the rack in a hardware store, before being restricted. Crying shame my grandpa didn't by a hundred and put in my name.

To my detriment, they would all be in my safe's. I buy, not sell.

I remember reading a book about the Thompson when I was a teen-ager. "The Gun that made the Twenties Roar", IIRC. Lots of info on the various models as I remember.

I didn't realize that they fire from an open bolt. It was different to shoulder, knowing that the bolt was open with a round sitting there. I guess the semi-autos do not.

As I recall, the National Firearms Act of 1934 (yes, THAT NFA) put an end to the selling of Thompsons in hardware stores and such. Ahh, "the Chicago typewriter". Great guns!

It is my understanding that open-bolt designs were intended to lessen the possibility of a round "cooking off" in the chamber. Open bolt guns tend to run cooler, I believe.
