Thats a nice looking 1911. Your brother said you bought one and really liked it. I shot his 1911 Sunday and its pretty nice as well.

). I was tempted to purchase a S&W Performance Center 1911, but I'm glad that I went with the PM-45.

Holster and mag pouch arrived today. Very impressed with the quality of 1791's products for the price. The brown accents are a dead match for the orange brown color of the cocobolo grips on the pistol. If anyone wants any additional feedback on the holster, just let me know and I can start a separate thread in the gear section.
You're right, for the money, 1791 makes a decent holster. One small issue with mine. The front sight on my 617 is a sharp 90 degrees at the back end. When you pull it from the holster, it drags and removes a small smidgen of leather each time. It will either remove leather to a certain point and stop, or perhaps eventually eat it's way through. I hope the former. No more than I will use the holster, it shouldn't prove problematic.

Thankfully the sight channel is pretty flared on this particular model. The FO insert wouldn't stand up to much abuse. My biggest criticism is that the holster was wet wolded for the safety in the off position. Another dimple could easily be added in the sweatshield if needed so it's not a dealbreaker. With my particular pistol, there's doesn't seem to possibility of it disengaging the safety. The leather is thick and seems like it should keep it's retention (all reviews that I've read says that it does). I likely couldn't touch anything similar in quality for twice the price.
My attempts to contact 1791 through email and Facebook have been pretty pathetic. I just receive promises to follow back up with info, but no further follow through. Dealing with a warranty issue with them would probably be a PITA.
I'd like to know if their J frame holster will fit a magnum frame model with a 2 1/8" barrel. If so, I might try one of those out as well.

the safety off thing would drive me crazy. Thats a level of attention to detail that i require. unless they just used a different (milspec?) safety..
Yes, they used a standard milspec safety for the profile. The recess is so small that the oversized safety on the PM-45 contacts the sweatshield the same amount whether it's engaged or disengaged. If I had a safety that was particularly light, I'd absolutely recommend adding a second recess.
