Ask the Ruski's. Just about every vehicle in Russia runs a dash cam. Insurance difficulties if I remember right. YouTube is full of their dash cams catching meteors, and other unique things.

They really do help with insurance claims. I've had several claims were people lied to us about what happened in the accident...until the other party sends us the video! Definitely some crazy stuff out there that doesn't make sense until you see it on video.

I love ours (VanTrue R1), but it isn't without it's misgivings. The screen resolution is fairly low despite the camera's resolution (1080p), and the interface is the very definition of clunky. But once you get the few settings the way you want it it's basically a set it and forget it situation. For some reason the USB cables I've used keep screwing up, but I don't think it's the camera's fault. There's a newer model that I'm sure they've improved upon. I have a… hmm…16 or 32 gig (can't remember) micro-SD in ours and it stores at least a few hours of footage. Image quality is typical of a camera with such a small sensor, but the extremely wide field of view and the actual video quality is quite good.

Bringing this back up. Its been about 6 months since I posted and my under $50 camera is still working great. Before I buy another one for a new car, I thought I would see if anyone had new information on something better. Hate to buy then see a better item....

I just installed this two channel Blackvue dashcam: http://www.thedashcamstore.com/blac...-capable-wifi-gps-dashcam-for-front-and-rear/

Really like it so far! You can connect it to the Blackvue Cloud, meaning if you have a wifi hotspot in your vehicle that it can connect to you can view it live on the Blackvue app on your phone from anywhere in the world - can even have a two-way conversation via the dashcam with whoever is in the vehicle. I've installed several of these; I'm in Tulsa and would be glad to assist anyone who needs help with installation.
