The coyotes cleaned him to the bone. Glad you found him!

I haven’t lost but a couple deer ever to coyotes, and it’s bad for it to happen. On the other hand, if it were me, I could kill a doe later for meat, but losing a rack like that would be a TRAGEDY and would cause me to lose sleep.

Same thing happened to me last year. Found mine about 50 yards from my blind, opposite direction he had ran, due to all the crows feeding on him. Very glad you recovered that!

This one isn’t mine. I was just making a statement on the situation.

I’ve actually got a Lab that will trail wounded deer or pigs, but she’s 10 and basically deaf which makes using her tough. She still has a great nose though.

Found him 30 yards from where I quit looking. Story and more pics to come. Headed to the truck to get a saw.

Still a loss in my book. I'm sorry but I have had this exact thing happen before and when I don't get the meat I am still horribly disgusted. Nice to find the antlers, but still sucks almost as bad as not finding him at all in my book.

I guess what I'm saying is in this situation I wish I had never even shot him at all. I know because I have personally been there. The meat of the animal means A LOT to me, more than the antlers. Also took my frustrations out on the coyote population the following years because of it too! lol

Sorry don't mean to be a killjoy. He is still a very nice animal, and its nice to reconfirm with yourself that you made a good shot and sometimes poop happens, but its still disappointing! I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.

Well here's the story of the buck I named Karma. I recently got the big D this year and wasn't going to be able to get this lease again. A friend said he wanted it and bugged me forever about it. So I gave the farmer my word about taking it again. When the money came due he backed out. I couldn't really afford it but went ahead and paid since I gave my word. I figured somebody I knew would want it, but nobody did. I went and dumped some corn and put a camera out one afternoon. I actually found a guy that wanted it but could only pay half up front. I was gonna meet him up there one day and go check the camera. On the way up I called him and told him I couldn't do it unless he paid me in full. Well I checked the camera and had about 2k pics of small bucks and does. My last few pics had this buck on there to my surprise. I was estatic! I shared the pic with my friends and now everyone wanted the lease, lol. He wasn't fully mature but this is a small property with neighboring hunters that aren't management minded. He was coming in right at dark and opening day I got a shot with my compound. It ended up a bad shot and I later discovered I hit him in the leg. After looking for him for two days, I dumped some corn and went home disgusted. He disappeared and I figured there was no way he'd be back. Well Sunday I went to go work on a tower blind that had been blown over and went and checked the cams. To my surprise, he showed back up Friday at last light. I immediately went and changed and got in my ground blind. This time I took the crossbow to be sure. There's quite a few does in daylight pics and I wasn't seeing anything during my sit. I was for sure that someone had shot something right there, as I was 100 yards from the property line. I just couldn't believe nothing had shown up. About 7 p.m. he showed up! The only deer I seen that evening! I smoked him at 15 yards, buried the bolt in his opposite shoulder. I backed out and went to eat and call everyone. I went back a few hours later. There was no blood for the first 150 yards. I found one speck where I figured he had went at a fence crossing. I would find a few drops every 5 yards or so and finally couldn't find any. I decided to back out and contacted some trackers on Facebook. They were great and wanted to come out but I needed to get permission to go on the property where he was headed. The next morning I was unable to find the landowner and I told the trackers. An hour later my landowner contacted me and got me in contact with him. He in turn got me in contact with his lessor. He ended up being a big name outfitter and real estate agent. He was an awesome guy! He had a hunter in there that morning and said I could go in after he concluded his hunt. I spoke with the hunter and he told me to go ahead but I still waited until he was done. Awesome guy! I got back with the trackers and they had already went to go track one on the opposite side of the state. By now I was second guessing my shot and thought the odds were slim in finding him. I went to where I lost blood and went ahead of it to the property line. I walked the fence line about 200 yards looking for blood. I then hopped the fence and walked back 200 yards and found nothing. I stopped right there and started to pray. I hadn't even thought about praying all night. As soon as I was done praying, I looked up and seen a coyote. I started to squeak at it for fun then seen another yote! I knew he had to be there! I pulled out my phone and started to film walking in that direction. I walked within 5 yards of a coyote eating on the buck. I scared the crap out of that yote! Unfortunately I guess I never hit record in my excitement. The buck was laying 30 yards from where I quit looking. I bet I shined my light on him 10 times that night and never even seen him. I was by myself and took the best pics I could. Two different friends scored him for me today. One came up with 153 and the other 154 6/8. So I'm going with the latter lol. He is my biggest buck to date and couldn't be more happy and positive in prayer! So far I've prayed 1,074 times to win the megamillions, so that's in the bag fellas!
