Fiat owns 50%, GM owns the other 50%. VM Motori engines have already been in Jeep's, Chryslers and Chevy cars & little Chevy trucks just not much here in the US. They are a big company overseas and they have a pretty good reputation for quality, hopefully that wont change with the addition of EPA emissions add ons. This particular engine has already proven to be capable of over 600 Hp.

Chrysler had a Cherokee diesel a few years back but only sold it for a couple of years. It was a MB diesel back when Daimler owned them.

Mahindra was supposed to have the first half ton diesel in the U.S. market but they got scared off as well.

It may be plenty capable but most people are going to buy it expecting the pulling power that they can get from the current cummins, powerstrokes, and duramax. I think it's part of the reason they haven't given us half ton diesel in a while. People are going to over work that poor half ton suspension and braking system I expect. But I could be surprised.

None the less more diesel is more better! Now let's hope Chevy and ford follow suit!

My only argument against this would be that 50% of the people driving diesels (3/4 tons anyway) around everyday don't come close to utilizing the capabilities of the a diesel engine, I know I wouldn't. It is more about the "cool" factor. I would hope that those that use their trucks as a work truck everyday would know the limitations of the 1/2 ton chassis.

I would love to see what the MPG ratings are going to be for this truck. I would expect low 30s. I would be more apt to buy it for the fuel mileage, than to pull a 50 ft 5th wheel that I don't have.

I have no need for a diesel truck but if the MPGs were in the 30s I would be at the dealer today.

This is why I was so excited about the possibility of a F150 diesel. Plus lifetime of the engine seems to be higher for well maintained diesels over gas engines. As much as I despise dodge I'd be there in a heartbeat. 14 to 15 on a good day in my F150 just sucks.
