For those talking about insurance going up since 2000, how much more is your house worth now than it was then? You have more dollars worth of house so it takes more to protect that investment. Add to that the increased price of building materials and labor to repair storm damage and you see why insurance rates are higher.

If you do not carry insurance, you are a moron and I do not feel bad for you. It is there for your protection and you should be on your own if you neglect that. You are gambling with very high stakes by not carrying insurance and why should anyone feel bad that you went all in with your home and lost?

Insurance rate increases have gone up very disproportionate to the increased price of labor, materials and home values. Every insurance company loses money on homeowner's insurance in Oklahoma. The risk is spread to other states and their rates go towards paying our claims. There are several companies that will not write new business for homes in Oklahoma. There are more companies that will not write new business for homes unless you also insure your auto(s), which are profitable for the companies. And just some of our neighbors premium dollars go to pay for our hail storms, tornados and fires over the past few years, our dollars help pay for losses like Joplin and Alabama.

You'll all be glad to know that FEMA denied the governors request for assistance for the other 3 counties affected.

Federal officials turned down Oklahoma's request Thursday for assistance for individuals and business owners who suffered losses from wildfires in Oklahoma, Cleveland and Payne counties.
