This is sort of a man bites dog story, sort of.....

[h=1]70-year-old Oregon farmer eaten by his hogs[/h]
On Wednesday morning, Terry V. Garner, a 70-year-old Oregon farmer, went to feed his animals. Several hours later, when he hadn’t returned, a family member went to look for him and found, on the ground of the hog enclosure, his dentures.

Further investigation of the enclosure revealed that the hogs, which each weighed about 700 pounds, had nearly completely eaten the farmer, although some body parts were strewn about the enclosure.
Now the Coos County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Garner “ended up in a position where the hogs were able to consume him.” According to the Sheriff's statement:
There are several scenarios being investigated, including that Mr. Garner had a health event, such as a heart attack, which then put him in a position where the hogs could consume him. Another scenario being investigated is that given the age and health of Mr. Garner, that one or more of the hogs knocked Mr. Garner to the ground, whereupon that hogs killed and consumed him.

The statement added that at least one of the hogs had previously been aggressive toward the farmer but did not specify how many hogs live on the farm.
Garner’s remains were examined on Saturday by a pathologist who was unable to determine how the man died. A forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon will also examine his remains.
Answering the phone at Garner’s home Monday, a man who described himself as a family friend described the tragedy succinctly: “What a way.”
This isn’t the first time hogs have eaten their farmers.
In 2004, a Romanian woman was knocked unconscious and eaten by the pigs on her farm, UPI reported at the time. The news report did not say whether the woman survived, only that the pigs had eaten the woman's ears and half her face. Her husband, sedated, told reporters: "I'll never breed such beasts again."

Even more proof pigs are more magical than the unicorn... They turn not only veggies, but humans into bacon.

Note a herd of hogs between the moat and walls of my zombie castle.

Had an uncle whose change of razors was fatal. Whent to Schick and the hogs ate him.

This is such a sad story that I had to default to inappropriate humor. Damn! I hope he was dead or asleep before the hogs started doing what comes natural.

Why was he keeping such large hogs? When they get that big, they are really dangerous. When I was a kid we had one old Hamp sow that was nearly 500 pounds, and she would go after anyone. I saw her make my short legged Dad jump over a pretty high fence backward.

It's just a matter of time until we lose someone to wild hogs, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has already happened. A lady who lives near Davis was attacked a few years ago and was severly injured by a sow with pigs. Her dog stirred up the hog, and died for its trouble. The lady could easily have died, but through some good luck and some real courage managed to survive.

After reading this post, it reminded me of when my great grandfather would talk about his relatives that served in the civil war.

My great grandfather would tell us(cousins-when we were kids) stories of relatives who served for the Cofederacy. Tennesse, Arkansas, and Louisiana troops. A few turned into bushwhackers, some were hanged...get this...they were taken home to tell their family and dispense their last wishes, before they were hanged.

**What caught my attention was the "hog" part. I remembered great grandad telling us kids about a fear that some of the relatives(confederates) had....either being wounded (not able to defend yourself)and being eaten by a hog or killed in battle and being eaten by a hog.

He told us of a relative(I'm trying to remember the story) fleeing a defeated battle somewhere and they were traveling to the next town to get supplies and try to defend that area.

As they were coming into the town, they spotted some hogs...FOOD TO EAT. The local town people told them not to eat those hogs....those hogs had been eating dead soldiers. The towns people would starve before they ate thos hogs.

I don't know if they were domesticated hogs that got loose or wild hogs.

Hogs are the only livestock I'm scared of. If my Daddy was scared of them (and he was) there was a very good reason for it. He never worked hogs without a couple of other people there, just in case. He had several exotic cats (a couple of lions, a tiger and a cougar) that a guy in Lawton kept for pets, and all manner of large livestock, that he had no problem with ... Pigs, well, pigs were a different story ...
