This is a really great thread subject, Brandi, thanks for starting it. I wish I had some suggestions, but all of the "odd" food I've had was always out of state. Is there any place in the OKC metro that not only serves escargot, but actually serves delicious, sweet, and tender (not bland and mushy) escargot?

There was a place in North OKC that had decent escargot. Was served in a yummy garlic butter but they closed a couple years ago. There is a place, also north OKC, that is basically a french style butcher and bakery next door to each other. The bakery also has a small restaurant area where they serve classic french dishes. I don't know if they have it but that would be your best bet for escargot. I think it's called "La Baguette Bistro".

I think it depends on what is funky to you. I know some of the stuff I eat, a lot of people think I'm nuts (depending on how old you are, you might like the same stuff).

These are somewhat normal foods to me that some might find weird or funky:

Liverwurst, Blood and Tongue, Head Cheese: I really love Ingrids on these. These deli cuts are pretty typical in Deli's up north. Little hard to find down here. My favorite is blood and tongue. It has a smokey flavor that reminds me of smoked Gouda.

Bahn Mi: Imagine if Subway originated in Viet Nam. Basically a Vietnamese sammich with heavy french inspiration. Make sure you get it with fois gras, otherwise its just a sub.

Bahn Cuon: Basically rice noodle roll (sheet not actual rice grains) filled with pork, mushrooms etc. I love it topped with some fried sweet potato. Must eat with fish sauce and pepper sauce. My favorite place is over by Lang's Bakery.

I'll tip my hat to Tokyo. Can't go wrong with any sushi, nigri or sashimi.

Most of my other tastes I have to have shipped to me. Quahog and steamer clams, mussels, scallops, blood sausage, haggis, frog legs, gator, rattlesnake, jellied eel, kidney pie... unfortunately, I have yet to find a place in OK that serves any of these.

Tokyo Sushi is my personal sushi fave. It's non pretentious and has great sushi prepared by real Japanese sushi chefs.

I have had rattlesnake, turtle, alligator...all the usual. Gulfport fish market often has alligator in stock and I can attest it cooks up great.

Trappers has alligator on the menu and it's pretty good but I'm a sucker for their prime rib which is amazing.

I really wish OKC would open a restaurant that serves a variety of wild game and other unusual fare that most people never have the opportunity to try. Someone could make a nice profitable business out of it.

Another vote here for Tokyo Sushi. Even though I haven't been in a couple years or so, I've never been disappointed.
I always like the "eel lover's" combo. Used to be the place to hang out for chefs after work on Western Ave. Now I don't know where they all go I don't work on Western anymore.

Anyway, if there's more than three of you I'd get the boat. Nice selection. Soup is good.

We used to have Kodiak which allowed you to get quite a bit of game. However, I think they were poorly ran and some of that stuff can be expensive just to "try."

Tasty but doesn't really qualify as strange or unusual.

In this super "trans fat free" world of veggie oils, B-Dubs still fries meat in the fat of another animal... Nothing more perfect or present day unussual than that. Animals fried in other animals... Awesomeness.

Ludivine in Midtown over off of 8th and Hudson(OKC) Basically farm to Plate. Everything is locally raised or grown and Jonathan (owner/head chef) can do amazing things with meat.

Local In Norman. Same idea as Ludivine. Very Good Funky menu that changes with what is available locally. Chef Ryan Parrot is a master with any part of an animal.

I agree. Chef RP rocks! Ludivine is worth it to go. Take your sweetheart out there and make it an evening. One of the few places I miss ever since the okcCoCo moved away from that area to film row. We were right across the street from them.
