First off i dont deer hunt cause family wont eat it but i too feel that checking a deer in is a waste but my nephew found a place that would make metal dog tags with all his info on it and he attaches that to his deer when he gets one and they can be reused, now what happens when he does check one in i dont know.

I can't e check until I get the deer home.
I do not have a cell phone so I write my address and name and time of day of harvest, what the deer is, my lifetime license number along with where I harvested the animal on paper or duct tape and tape it to the deer.

I do not have anymore information than that.
The “field tag” for transport just has to have the information that @swampratt mentioned here. You do not have to include the confirmation number until it has reached its final destination point for processing, be that a commercial processor or your home.

I don’t rely on a twist tie or string. I put my information on a piece of paper and zip tie it tight around an antler or a leg. Another thing I’ve used are old luggage tags that you can slip a business card in. Business card already has name, address and phone # so I just write my license # and harvest info on it and go.

I had to drive about a mile to get enough signal to check my deer, and I just wrote the confirmation number with my name on it and use electrical tape to attach the paper to the rack. If that’s not good enough, I’ll just have to meet the GW in court, because I’m dang sure going to fight it if he tries to give me a ticket.
