Maybe this scope setup is for a guy that only has access to a short range but wants to work on long range shooting?

Shooting a Lott will get real expensive real fast.

Not if you don't shoot it a Lott, or do a Lott of reloading for it. Back when the 405gr jacketed Remington bulk were reasonable, price per round wasn't too bad. Brass was the pricey part. .458 win mag brass deals could be found every once in a while too. Shot up the last of my 600gr Barnes years ago, I wished I would have kept some for conversation pieces.

I have a box of Lott Hornady factory loads...and figured the brass from that would be enough for reloading and keeping on hand. Not like you'd be out shooting hundreds of rounds of that stuff in an afternoon.
