For what it's worth the only guns I've ever fire lapped were because of corrosive ammo being fired in them and not cleaned.
And then only because the damage was slight.
I'm not a big fan of it personally.

I did it to a rifle last Friday. It did not hurt it that is for sure. It was not a resounding success either.

Remington SR-25 308 20 in bbl.

On the good side the copper fouling problems it was having aren't happening any more.

On the down side improvements in accuracy weren't immediately noticeable. Definately did not make it shoot worse.

Conditions were bad though and my conclusions on this point are incomplete.
It shot into the same hole the 1st 2 shots on several groups. Then the group would open up to 3".

Let it cool some between shots and it shot a better .75 MOA

Might do better if I were willing to let it cool longer.

I don't regret doing the fire lapping yet. I Like the idea of semi-auto but just dislike the thermal shifts you can often get with the lighter barrels.
