Guess who pays for a street rename?

Business owners in that area.

Doesn't surprise me if the instigator is doing business in another area and has competitors in that area.

It's actually Blake Ewing, the councilor, and his businesses are bars and restaurants in the area. He stands to go better having a few other businesses in the area to draw crowds (the business there was much slower when it was only 2-3 shops, before the gentrification occurred). Why he as a business owner things this is a good idea is beyond me, lest he is just pandering.

He and GT are also supposed to be staunch business "Republicans" though they've completely taken the opposite side on this issue. It's a massive waste of our time and resources just talking about it. Glad to see my councilor it voting no and wanting to move on.

Ewing's businesses are in the Blue Dome District, not the Brady. Blake and Bynum are the two biggest do-nothing, grandstanding, asshats on the Council besides Henderson.

 I saw a thing about this on the news last night. I'll not make any silly comments because good old Mayor Mick hasn't been the sharpest tool in the shed about some things but I gotta agree with the "WTF" camp. There are serious issues facing Tulsa and THIS is what city leaders have decided is important?? I feel for you Tulsans ... (Yeah, I know ... Really ... I don't care for Mayor Mick. But he'll just get replaced by someone just as daft so ... what do you do??)

People who are offended by something that happened almost a 100 years ago either have too much time on their hands or are mentally defective. Either way they should be ignored. There are current problems such as gang crime that are much more important.

Meh I'm a long time midtown Tulsan and the Brady, Blue Dome, and Greenwood all run together these days. To distinguish between them is splitting hairs. The are literally yards apart.

I'm with you on the asshat part.

Two things- It is white-washing history by removing anything that doesn't fit with modern thinking. Yeah, support that. Remember- the same people don't like the 2nd amendment either.

Secondly, this is stupid. The area has a name with brand recognition. It's kind of like changing Dr. Pepper to Steve. Same taste, no brand recognition. Sales tank, all of those businesses will have to change everything that has their name on it. Billboard, business cards, bus ads, phone book, everything.

Also, as was mentioned a few posts ago, there are way bigger issues at hand, this is simple distraction.

I've never seen so many people get offended by the mere mention of the name Obama/Pelosi/Feinstein/etc. (who rant and rave and beat the dead horse of trying to find/invent new ways to get offended), that have the absolute absence of irony to throw out the "PC" argument for other folks trying to get a street name changed because the guy it was named after was a huge douche.

It's not only hilarious but hypocritical that all the people who are so put-off by the PC efforts of those trying to change the name from Brady would be $#!++ing themselves every day starting new threads about how we need to change the street name if it was "Jane Fonda Ave".

Seriously, it's only a PC problem when it offends them - as soon as it offends us, well... it's a whole different ball of poop.

I really don't see what the problem is, most people if not all people including myself didn't know the street was named for someone, and frankly I didn't care, but now with all this drama everyone's knows. It seems some people can only hold on to there heritage by reminding everyone what the white man did to there people so long ago. Should we forget what happened, no, but should that be what you always hang your hat on, no.
