Several months ago I started a thread,,,
I based it on the concept of buying ammo,,,
For a rifle you want to shoot but do not want to own.

In essence it stated that one should seek out a friend with the gun,,,
And then buy some ammo for it and sponsoring a range day.

I had the desire to shoot an SKS again,,,
It's the only semi-auto milsurp I'm enamored with.

My friend owns a beautiful Yugo SKS,,,
So I ordered a 240 round pack of ammo from sgammo.com.

Last Sunday we went to the range to shoot that rifle,,,
It was fun to shoot and my 10 rounds were relatively well placed.

But I discovered that I have become a bit of a recoil wimp,,,
After that 10 rounds my shoulder was very sore,,,
I've become so used to shooting .22 rimfire,,,
I've lost my tolerance for recoil.

When I was 12 years old,,,
I used to peddle my bike to the dump,,,
Armed with 20 rounds of 8-mm Mauser ammo.

I would happily shoot it all at the HUGE rats,,,
And wish I had more than just 20 rounds.

The next day my shoulder would be a bit sore,,,
But I just sluffed it off and started saving up for more ammo.

I shot the SKS on Sunday,,,
It's Wednesday and my shoulder is still a bit sore.

I'm getting old my friends,,,
But I refuse to succumb to my age,,,
Next time we go out I'm going to shoot that SKS again.

Honestly, I'm on blood thinners and expected a big dark bruise,,,
Fortunately that didn't happen so I'm going to man up,,,
And fire at least 30 rounds through that Yugo.

Oh what the heck,,,
I might even bring that Mauser out of retirement.

After an hour shooting those brass-butted-beasts , next day my shoulder bruises look like the gay pride flag.

Perhaps I should buy one of those slip-on recoil pads for his rifle,,,
I cobbled up one for my Tarp-door 45-70,,,
It helped quite a bit.

It shouldn't be too difficult to adapt a slip-on shotgun pad to his SKS.

Or I could just man up and embrace the pain. :cry11:

I'm just musing out of boredom,,,
I was supposed to go to the range today,,,
But the temps are too low for my old candy-arsed self.

Probably less "meat" between the gun butt and your shoulder bones nowadays.
Nothing candy-arsed about it. I've been known to put a sand bag between the steel buttplate on my Dad's old Remington 721 .30-06 and my shoulder shooting it off the bench.
