Food Plot Basics

Yes on soil samples. N, P and K in good range. Some micro nutrients are lacking. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Any input y'all have for what's lacking that might be a contributing factor to the horse nettle is appreciated. Our soil is sandy with very little loam so my thoughts are most of the micro nutrients will filter through unless something is growing to use them. On the soil sample, it's plot #1 with the most then #2 and #3. The other 3 plots don't have the nettle or it's just 1 or 2 plants. @Deer Slayer Maybe your guy would have any input?

I've got liquid fertilizer from deerslayer that will boost those numbers but need to find if there's a way to permanently adjust the soil's macronutrients.

I don’t know how it’s done it, but my clover has flourished this year. Between it and my pea field, the deer have eaten well this year.

It loves the shaded areas! The fringes of our food plots look similar but not towards the middle. Oh, and not quite so lush. Had one rain in the last month of about 1-1.5".

I was out of time so went all in and dusted in my food plots this weekend. Not a bit of moisture anywhere in the tilled ground, so I figure the seed can sit there as well as it can sit in my barn. Just hope that when it rains, it’s enough to germinate AND sustain the seedlings.

As far as hunting goes, it’s looking like hunting my “water plot” might be the best option. This pool of water is spring fed and the only waterhole anywhere in my creek. That hole is usually 6-8 ft deep during normal conditions. The path to, and the creek bed looks like cattle have been in there from all the deer activity.
