This is what is in three of my cars with the newer 3 channel version having been bought, but not installed yet, in my car. They do wonders and you can access the footage with your cell phone on scene, if needed. I did have them professionally installed, just to hide the cables under the roof trim. Get the version that permanently mounts, instead of the suction cup ones. It stays on the windshield much better.

I have a Garmin Dash Cam 47. It’s tiny and magnetically mounted to the windshield. It’s always on when the ignition is on but I’ve never had to use it in an accident.
