how about a tax on tires instead, the more you drive the faster they wear out, i heard don't know if true but EV's are heavier a wear out tires faster. even though i still don't want to pay more taxes!

Can't put a state tax on a retail item. City sales tax is all. And that's not put towards highways. Even if they could do that, everyone would drive 3 hours out of state to buy tires.
Just pay your part for our roads and hush. You have no idea what it was like owning a model A and trying to get anywhere after a rain on dirt roads with not even a gravel topping.
Sure they can. Cars are retail items, and there are pretty hefty state taxes on their sales. They already have state fees on tires, so it wouldn’t be that difficult for them to add more.
Disagree, based on what those taxes are targeted for. It certainly not for transportation as a user fee for said roads. Current taxes on tires are for cost of disposal only. Name another.
