With a billion records it'll be all their entire army can do to comb through them to find out the original owners. Plus, I don't know how many 4473s I've had to fill out for pawn redemptions.

The comment about Russians was a reference to the movie Red Dawn. But I agree, managing a database that large and with records going back to 1968 and being able to find useful information would be a feat. I don’t have that much faith in the gov’t ability to keep track of that information. You’re right I’ve heard that US Citizens own anywhere between 300-600 million firearms. So, they may have a billion 4473s, but that doesn’t mean they have a billion firearms in a database. Plus, I can’t imagine how many times some of those firearms have changed hands, been destroyed, people have moved, etc.

IMO this country has become the most free prison. By that I mean the only “rights” you have are the ones you have been so graciously allowed to have (for now) by the feds and the fed.

Anything that threatens their rule is not allowed. The only solution is peaceful dissolution.
But people still think they can vote their freedoms back.
Until that changes we will continue the march to socialism.
Well said. I say it all the time that voting is meaningless. Until Americans can grow a pair and use the 2A for why it’s for we will continue to lose our freedom.

Pretty much. We’re all leaving a digital trail of data about our lives that’s accessible by commercial and government entities. It’s not going to take a database of 4473s to for anyone to figure out that we own guns, which is not to say that I’m in favor of the ATF digitizing all those records.

So, a person who hasn't bought a firearm on a 4473 is on a list of known gun owners?

Asking for a friend.

Probably… given the amount of data collection that’s done through tracking our electronic devices, out retail purchase history, email/websites we visit, our movements and interestsc etc. So, it’s a pretty safe bet that some database has collected information that could inform someone about how likely we are to own a firearm. The reality is that it doesn’t have to be a formal list; you just have to have access to enough databases with personally identifiable information to connect the dots. Those databases are sold and traded just like any commodity.
