Its legal to shoot a shotgun in Ok at ducks on Corps of Engineer lakes from a boat as long as ALL forward motion provided by the motor, sail, oars etc has ceased.
I don't know about Arkansas laws, but its much different than shooting a centerfire across water.... any water.

I'm pretty sure that the specific wording is that you can hunt from a boat that isn't "under way." AGFC doesn't define whether "under way" means under power or just moving. But I'm pretty sure that you can even hunt most game animals from a boat as long as it isn't under way. Positive that a truck that isn't moving counts as a blind, so long as you aren't on a road.

Points well taken. I never thought about the ricochet.
Larkin- That's the lake. Although it's more like a swamp to be honest. I've never seen enough water in it to have more than a bass boat with a trolling motor on it. An outboard would bog down in the mud and get completely wrecked on the stumps that are all over the place.
Anyway, I get the point about it being unsafe or irresponsible, but instead of the guy coming down and saying, "Hey, what your doing is unsafe and probably illegal, I'd appreciate it if you stop", it just bothered me that he would take it to the "I'll bring my guns down blah, blah, blah" and I wanted to complain about it. I guess it is just a guy thing, B.B. :D

I don't anyone here is trying to give you a hard time. You handled yourself well when dealing with the neighbor. I just wanted to point out the safety concerns, so that in the future you would be aware.

I think you did the right thing by walking away, you don't know if he had a pistol on him at the time, if you have been shooting and he confronts you, and you start walking towards him in a agressive manner, and hop the fence, that would justify him pulling his weapon and firing,

But I do understand you being frustrated, he should have handled is differently, I would have been upset too

Last weekend I went camping with some friends at a family friend's property on the White River. It's VERY rural, but there's a house upstream across the river.

Around 10 in the morning, we got up and shot .22s in to a dirt pile we built. We were shooting parallel to the river, and downstream from the house. After a few minutes, we hear the guy yelling that he's gonna call the sheriff if we don't quit shooting at his house.

I don't know if he missed a high school physics lesson, but I've never seen a .22 do a complete 180 after striking a dirt berm. And even if it did (of course it wouldn't) would it carry enough energy to even be noticed 200 yards in the opposite direction?

My last question... Why is it that ignorant people always threaten to call the sheriff?

I appreciate the input that I handled it correctly, it just bugs the crap out of me that this guy started cussing us out and threatening and although I "took the high road" it still stings my pride.

Dont let it worry you, You did the right thing by being the better man and letting it go! Things could have have turned out alot worse if you went to to talk to him him or looked for him. I know its one of those things that will bug you./ You did the right thing. Yea he may have called the police but they said you were in the right so there was nothing they could do so he was mad.

I think you did the right thing!!

I work at a range as alot of you know and I've seen many .308 rounds come back and hit guests at 30yds and not do a thing to them, Or even in the pistol range have a 9mm or .45cal jacket come back and not cause harm so I understand were your coming from with the .22LR rds!!!

:D:D Oh, I am not saying I wouldn't be b******* like a whore on dollar day ... GC just sighs, rolls his eyes and stares longingly out the passenger side window when someone cuts me off in traffic or tries to run over me in a motorized scooter at Wally-World but it never occurs to me to try and duke it out with them ... Maybe cuz I couldn't whip a dead man with one hand tied behind his back ... :D

And I guess because I was a paralegal for so long I have a tendency to look at things in terms of paperwork ... Is whatever I am contemplating gonna cause me to have to deal with paperwork at the scene?? at the county jail?? at the local mental health institution?? at the courthouse??

Yeah?? Well, no thank you ... I'll just pass ... :D:D:D

I still say you did good!!:clap3:
