Last weekend I went camping with some friends at a family friend's property on the White River. It's VERY rural, but there's a house upstream across the river.

Around 10 in the morning, we got up and shot .22s in to a dirt pile we built. We were shooting parallel to the river, and downstream from the house. After a few minutes, we hear the guy yelling that he's gonna call the sheriff if we don't quit shooting at his house.

I don't know if he missed a high school physics lesson, but I've never seen a .22 do a complete 180 after striking a dirt berm. And even if it did (of course it wouldn't) would it carry enough energy to even be noticed 200 yards in the opposite direction?

My last question... Why is it that ignorant people always threaten to call the sheriff?

I used to go fishing on the White river when I was a kid! Good times, good times...

As I'm packing up my stuff he's getting bolder and now starts making threats, "I'll go get my guns and run your ***** off." ?

Isn't there some sort of "rule/law" that the old guy could have been charged with? Sounds to me he threaten you with violence. Don't know maybe you could have called the Sherriff and reported him....just say'n...I'm sure it was best to pack it up and go inside. Good job.

I may be a passive or just a momma's boy but I would have walked away too. No sense in sparing with the guy... :musketeers: Not just to stop the old man at that moment but to keep him and his family from messing with your families stuff when they are away from home. I'm kinda paranoid about that...

I would have probably sat down, lit a cigar and smiled at him. I would have sat there, smilin, smokin, and staring at the guy till he either got a gut full and left, or got a wild hair and came over the fence after me. The first course would have been the more prudent as the latter course would have wound him up with a new ventilation system.

I have a family farm that has a 100 acre lake right in the middle of our quarter section. I dare someone to come out there and tell me I can't shoot a log. And besides, I'm an experienced enough turtle hunter to know where the riccochet's wind up. And where they don't.

*note: There are no houses for miles at my "pond"

I don't know what the layout of the land is on your property. but if you were skipping bullets (and remember they can go a mile or more).
If I was that old man and the bullets were hitting my house or car, I would of shot your ass. Accidental or not you would at least got one to the hip for violating gun safety rules by shooting at water. lol

He wanted you out of there so you wouldn't find his pot field or his chop shop or whatever illegal activity he was up to.

I dont normally take a cussing very well, but I would have probably just stopped shooting and gone back in the house.......as soon as I ran out of bullets.
