A lot of CCW holders have the attitude "If its concealed, its not an issue where I carry" Doesnt surprise me a bit.

This applies to most people that I know who actually carry their guns. Note that I did not say permit holders. But most people I know who religiously carry, everywhere and always, do carry everywhere. The response that "I would rather face consequences alive, than be an innocent victim" has been given in a various form several times.

While I understand that you need to take responsibility for your actions, and all, I find the animosity and self-righteous indignation people are spewing here to be a little much. How bout some compassion for a guy who made a pretty human mistake and it's now going to cost him?

Yes the man was stupid in that he should not have broken the law by carrying in a school in the first place,,,
But some of the vitriolic statements I've read here are so over the top I almost want to be there when you become an "accidental felon".

Fine him heavily and revoke the man's carry permit forever,,,
Nobody was hurt so no jail should be involved.

So true - does it really make people feel better to jump all over a guy who makes a stupid mistake? No malice was involved here. The only reason its an issue is the general public fear of anything that looks like a gun.

How many here have driven when they knew they were over the legal limit but still felt they could drive home ok? Which action put more people at risk?

My gut tells me that after this incident the guy would make sure never to leave his gun anywhere again. There is no need to take away his right to protect himself or his family over what was really an innocent mistake. He maybe should get a fine or a suspension or something, but when I see drug dealers and armed robbers released on suspended sentences or released after a conviction at trial for time served, I really think its beyond absurd to burn this guy at the stake.

The other half of this is the over-the-top reaction of the school. "Panic" "Lock Down" etc. Our teachers and school administrators are given no latitude to use their common sense.

I personally worked with the guy that did this for about 5-6 years in armed security. He was a nutjob. Everyone knew it. We fully expected him to shoot someone on a daily basis. He had stacks of complaints from coworkers as well as the facility employees. He was a conspiracy theorist, anti-government, tin-foil hat wearer. We have no idea how he ever passed the MMPI. I know some of my former coworkers are on here so maybe they'll chime in now that his name is released.

I worked with this guy too. He started to shoot at a moving vehicle who drove through a gate at a federal facility here in the city. He was stopped after he drew his weapon and started to crank a round off at the car.

Sounds like it might be a good idea if this guy isn't allowed to be around guns anymore.

I've known a few like him, and I just cringed when they would tell their tales. I thought about saying something a few times, but then what do you say to complete f'n idiots that will change their behavior?

I would be more sympathetic if he had discovered the loss the same day, but He lost it over the weekend and it wasn't discovered till Monday. It took someone asking him if he'd lost it, to make him realize.

It was out in the open

ProBusiness was specifically referencing carry in the classroom, which may or may not be independent of the goober in the news.

But that pistol had to get there out in the open somehow, and according to the news the goober has been "charged with one count of possession of a weapon on school property."
