Guns are not defensive weapons

It's an old saying but as true in the 80's as it is now WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS!

So if guns are not defensive, then, by default, they would be a weapon of offense. They would be a weapon to initiate violence rather than repress violence. Using his statement, law enforcement officers (whom I am sure he believes are the only one who should have guns) are aggressors rather than defenders.

Disclaimer. I do not believe that leo's are like that. Just presenting what I think is a logical refuting of his statement.

I agree, he said police officers do not carry a gun in defense of themselves or other officers, but to do their job in a safe and effective manner. What is their job if not to defend others? He also said that guns are used to intimidate and to show power--so it appears to be department policy to intimidate through force and if such intimidation isn't successful they will use their guns in a non defensive manner.
