Go with the 22LR. The mags will ruin your budget.

Somebody had it apart, and put together with wrong tools; I highly doubt they allow wood-screw-tipped screwdrivers anywhere near the factory.

You'd think so, but I just bought a brand new one. Took it out of the factory box, and then out of the factory sealed plastic. One the screws on mine is just like the original poster described, looks like someone used the wrong sized screwdriver. However, I didn't expect S&W levels of fit & finish. The gun is a great little plinker, and that's exactly what I was after.
