Personally, I've always been rather fond of Vogon poetry.

I grew up on British humor. Faulty towers, Are you Being Served, Monty Python, and the like. When I discovered HHGG I thought it was one of the best things ever. But I can definitely see where not everyone would be as much of a fan.

The books and TV series originated from a BBC radio show that Adams was the writer for. Funny stuff in all its forms.

If you like and watch all the Dr. Who series, especially the old ones, you'll probably be a Hitchhiker's Guide fan. HHG definitely wouldn't make a good read for most people, same with the movie, but most people hate Monty Python too.

It's quintessentially British humor, which I'm not sure translates well in written form? I definitely enjoyed the movie, especially doe-eyed Zooey Deschanel.

The only books I could never finish were Umberto Eco's "Foucault’s Pendulum" and L. Ron Hubbard's ****** "Dianetics" book.

Try Robert Jordans The Wheel of Time series. Its a fantasy series, but the only fantasy series I ever liked

Same for me with Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality.

Hate Monty Python?!

I don't see how anyone can not like Monty Python. I have been told that some autistic traits can keep an otherwise intelligent person from "getting" some humor. (I'm being serious)

Recently, I've been reading "Tomorrow, when the war began", which is basically Australia's Red Dawn. The synopsis is quite similar. A group of young people return from a camping trip to find out Australia has been invaded by "A Coalition of Asian Nations" who have decided that Australia must "share" their land.

They made a film about it which is on youtube in it's entirety:

A good movie if you like that sort of thing!
