Quality Semi-auto only. Don't spare the $$ to save your life.
People have been known to short stroke a pump gun and fail to load a round. Never "rack the slide" to intimidate an intruder. Doing that means you have one less round in the gun and you have just given away your tactical position.
If you take a shot that disables an arm, how you gonna rack a pump? Its doable, but not as quickly as a semi-auto will do it.

Bought a Rock Island M5 12ga pump (20" bbl, nickel finish, synthetic stock) at Atwoods a few months ago for $179.00 on sale. They have them fairly often at that price.

Personally, I'm not a fan of autos other than handguns. YMMV.

Lot of good choices where you can spend as much or little as you want and have a great shotgun.

Both Mossberg and Remington have shotguns under $400 that will work.

LOVE my Mossie 590 A1. I call her Black Betty....from the song Black Betty by Ram Jam.

She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

Had a Saiga waaay back in the late 90's. Had the magazines and two drums...it was a fun gun but I was offered more than I payed for it....so it went.

Come to Badshot Show in Guthrie this weekend. I'll show you a new 590 Mossberg with a built-in Insite Light that I think you will like.
I'll make you a deal on it that you can't resist.

Look for the sign: "Dan's Guns & Acc" . thanks.
I would like to go but work keeps me home wish I could take a look

I second Cohiba on the Mossberg 590A1. I have a 590A1 and it is rock solid. Is it worth the extra bucks? Don't know ... but it is one solid shotgun.

Mine has the 18½" barrel with an S&J magazine extension that gives my 7+1 capacity. It has a side saddle and a Speedfeed stock that allows me to hold ten rounds on the gun. I have the three-dot sights on mine and they help me with accuracy.

And also second his great taste in music ... here is something a little different ...
