So I have my safe room equipped with two full sized dehumidifiers. I keep the humidity 40 % or lower. Anyone else do this? Do you have an opinion on what is to dry? I have many pre-lock Smiths with factory wood stocks. I know there has to be a fine line between dry and to dry because wood does not react well to dryness over time.

Cannot answer question, but I keep my wood, stag, ivory oiled to prevent cracking, pure tung oil wiped on wood and excess wiped away within 30mins, while stag and ivory well annointed with food grade mineral oil periodically and allowed to sit a good long while before excess wiped away, stag/ivory grips soaked overnight in a mason jar of same. Coming from a tropical high humidity, the dryness here was shocking, but a real plus on things not rusting overnight if not wiped down, even BP gun left uncleaned overnight, something I only dreamed of for most of life.

I wouldn’t want it too dry. The idea behind dehumidification is to keep moisture from condensing on the metal during temperature fluctuation. According to the NRA between 30-50% relative humidity and 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.
