How do they come up through the drain? I have a septic system and unless they are dropping down through the roof vent pipe, they cant get in the pipes and they they have to go through the P trap filled with water?
I always assumed when I found one in the sink or tub it was becasue they crawed up the wall and ended up in the sink or tub and couldnt climb out. Like the glass jar theory, its too smooth to climb?
And yes, a recluse climbed out of my work boots once when I picked them up and walked to the bed to sit down and put them on.

Anything that can climb onto the top of your house can come down the plumbing vent pipe...frogs, snakes, bugs, etc. If they come into your bathroom and choose the shower the larger stuff, e.g. frogs & snakes, can't get past the drain gratting. But the bugs can. The frogs and snakes can get into the how through the toilet though. Had our first scorpion in the house this summer, Coweta area. May have hitched a ride with one of the dogs. We have the house sprayed for bugs now, every month, mainly due to the tremendous number of spiders this year. The yard is full of every spider you can immagine, no tarantilas yet thank goodness. Unfortunatly we are overrun with black widows. Anything outside that you need to pick up we turn over first! And the spider in your work boots. We've gotten into the habit of stepping on our shoes to smash any spiders in them prior to putting the shoes on. Very sad deal man.

We've been using the ortho Max bug-b-gone for about 5 years now. I spray 2-3 times a year inside the house on the floors and all around the doors. We find dead scorpions inside but so far never seen a live one inside the house lots of em outside tho.

Back in the day, chlordane worked good before being banned.
Haven't heard of tempo. Where do you get it?
You can buy Tempo at most farm supply stores. I get mine at Stillwater Mill and also the co-op's normally have it. You have to ask for it because of the price it will be locked up in a glass cabinet behind the counter. While it is expensive to buy it will also last for several years. I believe the last I bought was 46 dollars for 4 ounces but for instant kill you only mix 16 cc's to a gallon of water. I normally mix 1 gallon and spray inside and outside the house. I just set it on a small, low pressure stream and go around all the base boards inside as well as around the foundation. It won't stain the carpet, and has no smell. Do this once in the spring and once in the fall and your bug problems will be over. Hope this helps.

Kid Glock, I just looked on the internet and you can get it cheaper by ordering it off line. The site I read had 97 reviews and 96 of them gave it a 5 star rating.

we did an experiment this year. While on vacation (out of town) we put glasses over all of the drains in the house. We did find one dead spider in a glass when we got back. I couldnt believe they came throught the drains either, until i seen that.

Get a black light, it'll make the scorpions glow a bright funky green. Easier to find them and kill 'em. Wife loves to take her BL and hunt them, got 10 ouside the house night before last.
I wonder where you can buy portable battery powered blacklights.
If .22 shotshells weren't so expensive I would hunt them down with that blacklight and blast em with my revolver.

Most of us don't like to even consider this option, but sometimes there little else you can do - call the exterminator.

We moved into our house in 1998 and discovered, to my wife's dismay, that we had a serious scorpion problem. I tried all the home remedies, to no avail. Only when she threatened to move out did I agree to an exterminator. They came and did a complete job, inside and out (very important). They came back every 90 days for about a year, before the scorpions were pretty much gone for good. Since then, we've probably seen 2-3 and only one alive.

Scorpions will populate the sand base under the slab foundation. If your slab cracks, and they all seem to crack, a scorpion will have free access to you house. They can squeeze through anything.

A big plus 1 for Tempo! We use it at least twice a year and it wipes out everything for several months. I spray the outside perimeter of my house and the perimeter of my porches and around all the doors. Hell, I started spraying the door seals of my shop this year and don't have dirt dobbers anymore! Considering how little of it you mix to the gallon, I don't consider it expensive. I bet I don't spend $40 a year on spray. It's is well worth it to keep all the little crawly bastards away. My son has a natural attraction to things that sting, so if I can limit the screaming, I'm doing good...
