You folk didn't grow up dirt poor!

Campbell's pork and beans were the foundation,,,
Of many of my meals growing up.

Back in the day Campbells pork and beans were 7-cents a can,,,
When you have a passel of kids to feed,,,
They filled a lot of hungry tummies.

When I was a kid,,,
An egg on my beans,,,
Was a treat to be grateful for.

Pork and Bean brand used to be the best. I prefer Busch Baked Beans now over them.
Can't find any Beans in the Cambell's Pork and Bean brand anymore.
Great value brand is close to Busch also.

Someone mentioned Beanie Weenies, Homemade Beanie Weenies is way better than canned.

Then next level is Baked Beans with Smoked Brisket or Ribs or any Smoked BBQ meat.
Grilled Rib Eye and Beans is even top notch.

Like you growing up Beans were the main course plenty of times. Commercial Canned Beans were for special occasions.

I never knew we were poor, until Adulthood.

When I was a kid, Mom would cut up hot dogs and cook them in a can or two of pork and beans. She called it “beanie weenies,” and served it with corn bread.

I can’t say she ever served any eggs on it, though.
Never had cornbread with BW's, I bet that is good. Homemade BW's are the best too. That is how my Mom done it also.
Cornbread with Pinto Beans is a must have for me. With a small slice of Onion.
