Harbor Freight Tools regularly sells their Chicago Tool brand 110 volt welders for $100-- stick or wire. Just be sure to get the extended warranty.. it is cheap. I get their e-mail discount coupons every week and you can get some good deals, so you might want to sign up. Some Walmarts still have the $100 stick welders too.
How about a 220 welder and a 5 kva generator. I'm out of town but this is what I use when I need to weld something I can't haul to my shop.

That's what I do. 110 welders usually won't penetrate worth a flip
