And yet a larger bun sliced in the same manner with meatballs sauce and cheese, is called a Sub. Short for Submarine Sandwich.
I would say a hot dog on a bun is a poor man's beef wellington. Gordon Ramsey covered the difference in Season 27, episode 5 of "Hell's Kitchen."
The distinction is one should never put ketchup on a hot dog, just like beef wellington...

Air Fryer makes em pretty good to eat just plain. That Beef Sausage is awesome in an air fryer. Pork chicken ones are also good. I used to boil till plump and then pan fry to brown. Now I just use the air fryer same result and can be a little crispier.
