It is the way of things. The fact that both sides have become so entenched is what is hurting our republic. We all take things way too personally. American politics has turned into a cosmic pissing contest. These idiots (of both parties) strut and preen and jockey for position in a never ending game of oneupmanship. Meanwhile, America goes to Hell in a hand basket.

You guys talk as if political compromise is akin to treachery and cowardice. It's not. There are millions of people who don't share our values. The last election proved it. Certainly, we should NEVER compromise our 2nd Amendment rights, but on some other things, we are going to have to have some sort of give and take.

If not, keep beating the drums and watch us, and our demographic, become less and less revelant.

Compromise is what makes a republic work. The bigger concern is which lobbyists he gets in bed with.

Freshman indoctrination on the Hill doesn't take long. However, I agree with JB. It's critical to pin him down on what he will and will not compromise on. Some things are off limits and some aren't. If Boehner has his way, then just about everything will be on the table.

I consider myself a Constitutionalist, sometimes I call myself a Libertarian, but my belief is that the Constitution works and that the further we drift from it, the worse off we become.

Having said that, I think the way DC currently works is all wrong. The idea that government is give and take is really not correct. It is supposed to be small and unobtrusive, when was the last time anyone could say that about the Federal Government? We need less government, much less, compromise is not the answer. Every compromise we make means loss of more liberties.

Though I agree there are times for compromise, I do not believe any exist in our current political climate. Do we say, go ahead and raise taxes, but don't take our guns? Or how about, it is ok to kill American Citizens, but don't take our guns? Maybe we should say, I would accept losing my 4th and 5th Amendment rights, but don't take my 2nd? As much as I hate to say it, one of the only rights we have left is the 2nd, it hasn't really helped us much, has it?

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Politics is compromise. Theres even room for compromise with regards to firearm ownership. Its very obvious to me that mental health issues and guns dont mix. As gun owners and citizens we ought to be pro active, maybe propose our own legislation, otherwise mentally unhealthy people will continue to erode our rights.

It might not be popular to compromise on the 2A but its either that or get it shoved up our collective butts.

I'm pretty sure that the founding fathers had to make some compromises in writing the Declaration of Independence and then again in the writing of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Then there was those that wanted to crown George Washington a king, but they compromised and settled for an elected President.

Oh, I agree, my point is, I think we have gone way past the "compromise" that was intended. I didn't mean to make it sound like compromise doesn't work, it can and does. I just think we, as Americans, have compromised to our government more than we ever should have.

I can't disagree, but many of our representatives are pushing the agenda that their constituents support. The hard working, proud, red blooded American man is being replaced by manicured, candy assed momma's boys who dream of government freebies.
