The FN SCAR 17S is definitely not a must have.
I'll be watching for feedback, as this is one I've kind of kept an eye on, but have been too leery of some of the initial reports of problems.

You would do well to also consider an FAL or PTR 91 (G3).
I had a FAL and may return to one in the future, it's a nice gun too.
A 10/22 is a must have, a SCAR? Not to me.
When I was at Badlands two summers ago, my spotter had a heavy SCAR. It shot well for about 8 shots or so in the summer heat and then it started to string the shots. When it wasn't hot, you could make 1000 yd. shots with it. Of course it did get up to 115*F during that week.....but it would still start stringing when hot anyway. Good rifle....not great.
