Wow. Guy wins the Heisman because A&M beat Alabama. Oh well.
Congrats to him but shows what a weak field it was. Not even Adrian Peterson could win at as a freshman. But Heisman winners don't do well in bowl games so it's good for OU.

ESPN wanted this so bad they could taste it. Quite sad really that this was a popularity contest more than anything.
Congrats to him, of course. Winning the Heisman as a freshman comes with a ton of pressure; he still has a few years of college ball ahead of him and the expectations will he high.

So not true but the legend of Johnny Football definitely grew after the Bama game. Lots of folks were talking about him already but as a freshman they weren't talking in the context of the Heisman.
No, he won because he broke a bunch of SEC records including those held by two previous Heisman winners. He won because he led a middle of the road Big 12 team to a 10-2 record in what was supposed to be a 6-6 season according to all the pundits. He won because he did all this in a defensive minded conference.
And he did it with a lower passer rating than Klein, in a conference not used to the spread. Klein’s team was supposed to finish 6th in the Big XII (finished 1st), he accounted for 69% of KSU’s yardage and 66% of their offensive TDs, and was the Big XII offensive player of the year. Klein’s downfall was the debacle at Baylor, and the fact that he played at KSU.
And what was that arrest over the summer?
