Rand Paul thinks the Kentucky court clerk shouldn't be forced to have her signature on a contract to which she has a religious objection. He also objects to the way in which the federal government forced the legalization of gay marriage.

Does that make him a bigoted homophobe?

Nope, it doesn't. FWIW, I'm no fan of same sex marriage. Call me bigot if you think it's appropriate. BUT, if she doesn't want her name on the form, she can resign. Problem solved.

Honest question, if her religious views are allowed to keep her for doing her job, would that mean that she could deny other religions the chance to organize in her county? I don't know all the licensing needed to form a church, but I'm guessing some of it was have to pass through her office (if nothing more than the property sale).

Should she be allowed to deny another religion if she felt they were honoring a different God than hers?

I hope she isn't won't be paid for sitting in jail. She could have had her staff do what they felt was right but she tried to force then all to do things her way. Now 5 of then are willing to do tier job and her son can sit with his mother in jail for all I care.

Actually the 5 that are willing to do it said they are doing it under protest since they do not want to go to jail or be fined.

Or be put in jail? Oh wait that only applies to people that disagree because of their religious beliefs. I still can not believe that I, who does not believe in organized religion at all, am one who has to argue for the rights of the religious people.

Seriously no matter what the anti-religious bunch here say, this is just beginning and the court cases will go on for years.

Most religions are oppressive of other religions...most people don't take it that serious (most religious people are in fact not oppressive), but very literal translation of most religious text is oppressive (aka claiming that there is only one God)... which leads to people we like to call extremists.

This reminds me of a story when a certain group of people left some country to escape religious persecution, to found a country free of such oppression... can someone remind me of what country this is? i'm drawing a blank.

I know that many of you hate facts that ruin a good rant but if a staff member had issued a marriage license it would still have had her name on it and that was her objection. She asked the judge to allow the licenses to be issued without her signature but the judge did not allow that accommodation.

I blame Obama for the whole deal because he ignored so many laws thereby setting a bad example. Ace will be along shortly to back me up on that.

Ted Cruze kind of weighed in on the bolded part today.
