He did. Got three superficial wounds that met the criteria for "three and done" wounds, then headed back to DC to join the anti war movement, testifying before congress at one time.
The folks that served with him were pretty instrumental in their opposition to his run for POTUS and can probably be considered one of the forces that helped him lose it.
