I lost some trees around my place this year too. They just went from healthy to dead in a couple months.
I have 3 oak trees in my yard that are now dead standing and dropping big limbs regularly.

It's been 13-14 yrs ago, but at that time Noble Foundation recommended cutting down and burning. You might contact them to find out if anything else has developed.
I always heard it was from oak leaf wilt disease.
