Pretty cool that he was able to create that sort of reputation & market, I respect that more than his knife making skills - smart dude.

I saw that yesterday and looked up his site. He has a waiting list and it's done by both random AND chronological lottery. It takes several years to even be able to pay him the $6k for one of his knives unless you get lucky in the random. He auctions them too. I think I read he can have over 100 hours in a knife so that's where the $$$$ comes in. I do believe Hobbes may well be right in that he's found a tiny niche to sell to. 5 star restaurant chefs aren't just everywhere. I fully understand the craftsmanship and even some of the "art" of the metallurgy, I guess if one has the money to blow and a position that justifies the expenditure I could see it, but there is no way in hell I'd pay that or jump through those hoops to get one.

I'm on his wait list!

Thinking about it more...

A $6k knife sounds excessive but if you are a well paid top notch chef it would just be an investment in a tool that helps you do your job faster and more efficiently.
Over a long period of daily use it would pay for itself.

It's not much different than a gun engraver spending a lot of money on quality engraving tools.
Good investment too.

Plus I'm sure there is a bit of prestige involved if you are truly a top chef. Unlike a cop carrying a HiPoint.

Not to hijack, but if you're on a knife porn kick and haven't seen any of Bruce Bump's work, you're missing out... He's done multiple "works in progress" (showing the entire process) on KnifeDogs that are amazing to watch.
