Ok guys, I need some advice. I have a 2 week old ruger sr1911 and I love it. But boy is .45acp expensive. I had the opportunity to pick up around 500 rounds of brass ammo with lead bullets. Can you guys give me your opinions on lead bullets? Pro's and Con's vs jacketed bullets. I hear it is a lot dirtier, but I don't mind cleaning my guns more if I can find lead ammo for a price way lower then fmj. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Usually cheaper so that's great. Cons are probably a little smokier depending on the powder and leading possible if its loaded with a hotter powder. I'm assuming these are reloads though, anymore info on the ammo?

I load coated lead Bayou bullets with Clays powder and while i notice it's a little smokier it's not a big deal to me And I clean it usually after every trip to shoot so that isn't a big deal either.

If it feeds and goes bang then you're probably good to go. I recall reading that leading is usually caused by lead bullets that a poorly sized in relationship to the bore or the incorrect alloy hardness for the particular cartridge that you are shooting.

I've shot many thousands of cast lead bullets in Cowboy Action. And the Wild Bunch shooters MUST use cast lead in their 1911's.

I don't know if a .45ACP can hold enough powder to produce enough velocity to cause leading problems.
