If it’s just looking to make some extra income you could buy yearlings and find a landowner to let you pay in the gain. Any weight gained you split the profit of that gained value, and you don’t have to leave the one or buy hay.

Need more Information. What kind of land is it, brushy or open land? Can it be baled and what kind of grass is it? All things have to be considered to figure a price per acre or by the head or gain. Are there working pens and what kind? Will the renter get the hunting rights? Do you know the renter well, what kind of shape are the fences in? Brushy land rent for $5 per acre and up without the hunting rights. Clear good grass might bring $24 and up. A written contract is good, If you know the person and trust them you can workout some other arrangements.

really want a good fence regular barb wire won’t stop em if they want to get out.
I worked on a ranch for a while that had some bison. The exterior fences were barb wire, the bison were mostly gentle. There were a few you had to watch, they would try to horn in on your business, when they had calves more so. The working pens had to be really stout.

Also what kind of water source(s) and how many. Such as wells, creeks, river, ponds, etc.

A small pond won’t last long depending on number of head and how hot it gets.
