I've seen some of those a long time ago when there is not a limber limb to tie off to. The just take a strip of tube, and tie some nylon line to either end. One end for the tree, and the other for the bait end.
One can buy some of the YO-YO's at wally world that do the same thing. They are fairly inexpensive and work well.

I go to Wally World and use black rubber tarp straps and pinch down the "S" clips and tie off to both ends. Works great!
That's a great idea. Last time I ran yo yos I had three either with hooks straightened or lines broke. I might incorporate something like this attached above the yo yos also.
I don't think a yo yo will stand up to the punishment placed on it by a fish that you need a tarp strap shock absorber for. I think the yo yo will cut the line too quick.
