The other side had some slight bubbling/crackling around the ejection port for some reason.

The other side had some slight bubbling/crackling around the ejection port for some reason.
That's called 'orange peel'. It happens when the substrate has some sort of contamination that wasn't cleaned prior to painting.

In this case, more than likely the surface wasn't completely decreased.
Sometimes it will happen when traces of the old paint react to the new coat, but the pistol wasn't painted. Probably some Kroil that wasn't completely cleaned off.
