This is the closest I've found.

That ALG is pretty dang close to round. Why such dislike for "just slightly not round?"

That Miculek HG looks great, but it's pretty dang expensive ;)

I'm going to have a KX5 flash can pinned and welded on a 14.5" barrel, and the 15" HG would extend slightly over the can. Anything less than round wouldn't look quite as cool as a completely round HG, in MHO. The NC-1 HG would work, but I'm hoping to find something with a smaller ID so the can isn't as visually dwarfed.

White, I have a 15.5" NC-1 HG mounted on a 16" barrel with a Ferfrans CRD brake, and have the HG covering the rear edge of the brake shroud. I have yet to complete the build, but the upper looks way cool!

GOML, the JP HG has the same inner and outer diameters as the NC-1, so it's interesting you'd think it feels more slender. It does look pretty nice, though.

As it is so far, I will likely go with the ALG V2, even though it's not quite round. It doesn't have a rail all along its length, which I like. It'll also be a new experience for me, which tips the scales further in its favor. Not too pricey, either.

Thanks for all the input, folks!

Hmm. Some of the rails with flat sides have a round ID, like the one on my .300blk.

I think I recognize that HG. If it's what I think it is, it's WAY too skinny for my taste and my big hands. I want something more substantial. Goldilocks :D

Also, I prefer no raised areas along the sides or bottom, as they dig into my palm when I grip the HG.

Take a closer look at the ALG. It might be just what you want. It's a little larger OD than mine. Surely some gun shop has one in stock you could handle.

Turns out, my neighbor has an ALG V1 on his AR, so I'll check it out this afternoon. On a related note...

The KX5 flash can I received has the cool flaming pig logo on one side; unfortunately, it has a billboard on the other side containing the company name, model number, cage number, physical address, email address, phone number, date and articles of incorporation, a tide table, etc. The ALG hand guards likewise have an unsightly billboard on one side; what do you folks use to remove these blemishes without damaging the finish? I was thinking a green/yellow Scotch pad with some rubbing alcohol, but I'd like to hear what else can be used.

If it's not possible to remove the wart, can the KX5 flash can be installed without any indexing? Seems to me there's no particular alignment necessary; if that's the case, I'll mount the can with the pig on top and the wart on the bottom. Can't do that with an ALG hand guard, unfortunately. That's a good reason for Cerakoting, come to think of it ;)
