I think that crash was an eye opener to our readiness for desert operations.
One thing most criticize Carter for, not saying you are criticizing or not, just that is what happened at the time.
May have been a good thing for our future military operations, that came in later Bush times.
I always thought, I was young then, that the plan for rescue was a good one. Gas the guards and rescue hostages. Sounded good, but we were not ready for the operation. Probably a lot of Pentagon Strategist to blame also. But Carter was in charge.
