Marathon FL? anyone been?

Looking for a place to take the wife on vacation next year. She is in a nursing program and only gets one week off in June for a summer break. Anyways anyone here have any experience with Marathon or the Keys in general. Looks like a beautiful place and lots to do. Plus Im sure I can manage to talk her into spending a full day at the spa while I go Tarpon fishing.

If your the tourist type just go all the way to key west. There is much more to do. It is shall we say "alternative" but worth a single visit. You can always take a day and go to marathon. They have a great beach!

yah key west is weird to say the least. LOL Ive been to both more than a few times

Key West is awesome! You can find great spots all through the Keys but Key West has the most of everything. Wish I was going.

Took the wife to Key West a few years back. Stayed at the Francis St. Bottle Inn. Nothing fancy, but it worked. They always had the best recommendations for food and recreational activities. Tried on our own a couple of times and were disappointed, went back to their recommendations and had a great time. Don't bother renting a car, get a bike or a scooter. Weird people is an understatement, so great for people watching.

My brother had a "destination wedding" there a couple of years ago. It is beautiful. An hour or so to Key West (which is a little crowded for me) lots of beaches nearby. We went out Dauphin fishing for a half day and caught a bunch. Lots of great condos to rent rather than staying in a hotel.

We go to the Keys every year for two weeks to a month. Best advice is don't plan anything just do whatever comes up and relax.

The keys suck. Better beaches elsewhere in florida and more stuff to do inland.
Most of the fish you will catch in the keys can be caught in a location where you can do other stuff when fishing isn't on order.

If you never been, I'd say go just to say you have, but I've lived in Florida for 8 years now and only been twice. Once because I was a tourist and another because I was forced. Half the people I know in Florida has never been simply because there's nothing there.

You can do all of the touristy things the keys have to offer in Tampa (Anastasia Island, I like) Jax beach, St Augustine, Daytona, Satelitte Beach and others. From these areas, you have several theme parks relatively close, attractions, historical stuff and of course fishing. And shopping if you're into that.

The keys are overrated.
